- 1862 – The Hyer-Knowles Planing Mill, having been stripped of machinery by Confederate General Braxton Bragg, was razed as part of the "scorched earth" evacuation. The surviving brick chimney is now part of Chimney Park.
- 1885 – The Old Escambia County Courthouse was completed.
- 1993 – Anti-abortion activist Michael Griffin shot and killed Dr. David Gunn outside the Women's Medical Services clinic.
