Alex Zelius was a ship chandler and grocer, as well as (for some time) the vice consul for both Norway and the Netherlands. In 1908 he stood for election as Pensacola Harbor Master but lost. He served as chairman of the City of Pensacola's Board of Public Works under Mayor Charles H. Bliss, and as a City Judge. He was a charter member of the Pensacola Yacht Club and of the Knight of Pythias Lodge.
