'''Walter E. Wicke''' was [[mayor of Pensacola]] from [[1943 ]] to [[1947]]Born in Pensacola on [[November 25]], [[1895]], Wicke's family was one of the area's first major plumbing contractors. He served in the Army during [[World War I]], deployed in Britain and France. Wicke became interested in government during the [[Depression]] and joined the [[Pensacola City Council|City Council]] in [[1937]], on which he served for ten years. He was [[Mayor of Pensacola|mayor]] for the last four years. In [[1955]] Wicke became the first manager of the newly built [[Pensacola Municipal Auditorium]]. He served in this position until his death in [[1966]].
