'''Brownsville''' is a neighborhood on the west side of Pensacola, centered around [[Mobile Highway]] between [[Pace Boulevard]] and the railroad tracks along [[Citrus Street]]. It is named for [[Lucius Screven Brown]], who is responsible for the first housing development in the area, seven blocks bounded by [[Pace Boulevard]], [[Strong Street]], [[W Street]] and [[Gadsden Street]].

Centered around Brownsville was formerly a bustling commercial area due to its location along [[Mobile US Highway90]], the formerly-bustling area suffered from at one time a major travel route. However, with the arrival of [[I-Interstate 10|Interstates 10]] in and [[Interstate 110|110]], the late-70sarea entered a period of decline. In recent years it has attracted a reputation as a safe haven for criminal activity, including drugs and prostitution.
