Brent served on the Board of Commissioners of the Government of the Principality of Pensacola in at least 1885<ref>[http://www.rootsweb.com/~flescamb/1885appendix.htm]</ref>
Correction needed. In 1885 Governor E.A. Perry dissolved Pensacola's post reconstruction government and created the "Provisional MUNICIPALITY of Pensacola." There never was a "PRINCIPALITY" of Pensacola. This error is likely due to a transcription error on the Escambia county Rootsweb page for the 1885 Webb's City Directory.
