*[[1976]] – [[Escambia High School riots]]: An impromptu election is held at [[Escambia High School]] in which students voted whether to keep the temporary name "Raiders" for their athletic teams, or revert to the name "Rebels," which had been deemed "racially irritating" by [[U.S. District Court]] Judge [[Winston E. Arnow]]. The students who preferred "Rebels" failed to obtain the needed supermajority, which led to the next day's riots.
