The park honors the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A bust of Dr. King is the centerpiece of the plaza and has been victim to put numerous vandalism attempts. The plaza was dedicated on [[January 18]], [[1993]] (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day).
