Bliss died on around 3 a.m. in the morning of July 24, 1907, just more than a month after winning a second term as mayor. He had long suffered from a heart condition brought on by an earlier bout of pneumonia. The Pensacola Journal reported his death that morning: Bliss was interred in St. John's Cemetery.
