- But... do you mind if I de-Anglicize the word "organise"? :) --Admin 10:13, 8 April 2008 (CDT)
- Yeah, sorry, I tried to go back and anglicise (ize) things. Force of habit. 70.191.223.246 08:42, 9 April 2008 (CDT)
Notes
Dramatis personæ
- G. C. McCain - President of the local branch of the AASEREA.
- Alexander Sarra - secretary of the local branch of the AASEREA. If a worker was suspended by the company (without pay) that worker had to report to the company 3 times a day. Sarra says: "We [the striking workers] claim the rights of free men to earn what we can during such time, or, if our circumstances permit, to remain in our homes." Pensacola Journal, 7 April 1908 [1]
- John W. Leadley - manager, Pensacola Electric Company
- W. A. Blount, Sr. - counsel for Pensacola Electric Company
Categories
We probably need to create a category for this. Something fairly broad -- I don't know if we've had enough strikes to justify a Worker strikes category. (Though I'll need to look through this again to be sure.) What about Events > Demonstrations & unrest? Then it could be grouped with the Escambia High School riots. Thoughts/suggestions? --Admin 08:05, 7 March 2008 (CST)
April 6 story
Joe, I've just transcribed a story about the first day of the strike (April 6, 1908). Thought you'd get a kick out of it. My favourite line is "There was a good deal of anger displayed at this juncture, and more than one pair of brass knuckles was surreptitiously handled." I've uploaded the file as a .doc here: [2] dscosson ··· talk 14:38, 7 March 2008 (CST)
- I wasn't able to download the document, but I do enjoy old-timey newspaper talk. --Admin 16:14, 7 March 2008 (CST)
