Allen Richard Levin was a real estate developer who, with Robert Rinke, was a principal in Levin Rinke Resort Realty, Inc. and built a number of condominiums along the Gulf Coast, most notably the Portofino Island Resort on Pensacola Beach.
Born on (date needed) to Abe and Rose Levin, Allen was the youngest of six brothers, including attorneys David and Fred Levin.
A graduate of Pensacola High School and the University of Florida, Allen worked as a a schoolteacher and businessman for many years. Later in life he became one of the most successful condo developers on the Gulf Coast. He was responsible for Tristan Towers, the Verandas, Emerald Isle and the Portofino Island Resort.
Levin had two sons, both of whom joined him as business partners. He adopted his wife's son, Evan, and in 1998 was contacted by his biological son, Andrew Rothfelder, who had been put up for adoption some 30 years prior and was a developer in Atlanta.
He was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2005, and in spring 2006 doctors told him he had only months to live. He was selected by University of Pittsburgh doctors for a rare double lung transplant and was ultimately declared cancer-free. However, the operation left him weak, and he died of a heart attack at Baptist Hospital on January 12, 2007, at age 62.
