- 1861 – Colonel William H. Chase is ordered by the Confederacy to seize the forts around Pensacola. First shots were fired at Fort Barrancas around 11:00 PM.
- 1889 – Edward A. Perry leaves office as Governor of Florida.
- 1971 – The Gulf Islands National Seashore is established.
