'''Jere's Lounge''' had previously been a hair salon which was owned by cosmetologist Jere Hobbs and located in the 6400 block of 9th Avenue. Until By the mid-1970s and until the early 1980's1980s, it advertised both topless dancers and a country music band. Following Hobbs untimely death in 1982, the name was changed to it remained closed for several months and then reopened as '''Jere's''' Rock and Roll Showcase, and so changed it's theme. Ownership was assumed by Hobbs sister, Barbara McDuffie, and managed by former news reporter David Jenkins- who sang the closing number of House Of The Rising Sun with every band that performed there under his management. '''Jere's''' hosted live touring rock bands, as well as locals such as Flame and The Heaters, RMS Express, The Beach Monkeys and BagdadBaghdad. After approximately twelve years in business, the establishment closed in the spring of 1985.
