Named to replace [[Henry Clay Armstrong]], who was removed by the [[Pensacola City Council]] for his support of Republican presidential candidate [[Wikipedia:Alf Landon|Alf Landon]], Moyer reportedly told the council, "I assure you gentlemen you have elected a good, strong Democrat."
