The McGuire's Pipe Band is a group of more than a dozen musicians who play bagpipes and drums at several dozen annual functions, including the McGuire's Irish Pub 5K Run and Evenings in Olde Seville Square. The current pipe and drum majors are Wayne Willis and Michael Zipay, respectively.
The band was founded in 1988 by Jack Dasinger under the sponsorship of McGuire's Irish Pub. Dasinger's band, the Hadji Highlanders, had begun playing at McGuire's after losing their gig at the Hadji Shrine Temple.
Basinger served as bandleader until 2001, when Sam Varney took over as pipe major. He remained general manager of the band until his death on July 16, 2003, when his ultralight plane crashed at the Coastal Airport in Beulah. Varney is the band's current general manager.
The Pipe Band has released two recordings of their music, Live From McGuire's and The Pipes of Christmas, which are available in the restaurants' gift shops. The group performs in traditional Scottish dress attire wearing the MacDonald Lord of the Isles tartan.
