Owner and chef Mounir Khalil opened the restaurant in East Pensacola Heights on January 27, 2003. The original location at 2900 East Cervantes Street (cater-cornered from Jerry's Drive-In) was initially an automotive service shop and was previously occupied by several other restaurants: Capt'n Jim's, Niyoshi's and Florida Pizza Kitchen, to name a few. That location closed in September 2008 after a decision by the building's landlord to sell the building. After some time off, Khalil reopened at the current location.
The Mediterranean Plus menu contains a number of vegetarian selections, and many entrees are served with homemade hummus and toasted pita.
