One case over which Gordon presided involved a woman named Anne Walker who was found beaten to death in her home, which she shared with a man named Crail. Crail claimed she was killed by an Indian, but Sheriff Gordon found conclusive evidence to convict him, and Crail was sentenced to hang. The judge also ruled that Crail's belongings could be sold to pay the cost of the gallows and rope, his coffin, and the frock and cap for Walker's funeral.
