A '''train robbery''' which netted $70,000 was staged on either the evening of Tuesday, [[September 17]], or the morning of Wednesday, [[September 18]], [[1912]]. Thieves removed $70,000 from express packages travelling on the [[Louisville & Nashville Railroad]] from Pensacola to [[Flomaton]] and replaced the money with magazine paper. It remains unclear whether the robbery was staged at the Pensacola offices of the [[Southern Express Company]] on the night of September 17, or onboard the train the following day. The express packages were properly received in Flomaton, where it was discovered that the packages were largely filled with magazine paper.
