The recent "near riot" out at Pensacola Beach raises a question. That strip of public beach where the altercation occurred is commonly called "Chicken Bone Beach," a name with negative connotations and arguably racist origins. I've heard people call it that most of my life; I don't know if it even has an official name. How should we label it? On the one hand I'm hesitant to legitimize potentially offensive nomenclatureLangdon Beach is named for Lieutenant Loomis S. Langdon, but on a soldier stationed at Fort Pickens during the other hand I don't want to sacrifice thoroughness over concerns Civil War who eventually became commander of political correctnessthe fort. Pickens Gate Park" (or [[Fort Pickens Gate Park]] — we should probably make a note about abbreviations in the [[Pensapedia:Naming conventions|naming conventions]]) really is the official name for that spot.
