Doug Underhill served as the Escambia County Commissioner for District 2 from 2014 to 2022. He was elected to the Escambia Board of County Commissioners from his election in November of 2014, where he defeated the Democratic challenger by 64.97% of the vote. In the Republican primary of that election, he defeated the incumbent Gene Valentino by 62.51% of the vote. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Board during 2015-2016, and as Chairman of the Board from 2016-2017. In his 2018 reelection campaign, he won by 56.26% of the vote. During his time on the Board of County Commissioners, he has focused on offering residents an open, understandable, and resilient local government body as well as conservation and fiscal responsibility. Jonathan Owens served as his commissioner's aide and Connor Mann as his Intern. In January 2021 he announced that he would not be seeking reelection. Underhill notably served in the Navy for over 30 years and retired as a commanding officer.
