Mike Danger was the stage name of John Michael Apperson, best known for being a wrestler, singer, standup comic, daredevil, wearing a fluorescent Mohawk-style haircut, loud attire and incorporating a chainsaw into his stage antics -much of which he accomplished after losing his eyesight in his late twenties due to diabetes and an automobile accident.
In his younger days, he was a world competition skateboarder and the subject of over one-hundred articles in various surf and skateboard magazines, also in various newspapers, including one in the Pensacola News-Journal on August 5, 1987.
Mike Danger had also been employed at Plee-zing Grocery, Sal's T-shirt Factory, Franco's Lounge, Franco's All-Nite Affair, and Subway Sandwiches. He also owned the Rockasaurus record label, and had several books and CDs published.
On July 4, 1984 he performed at Franco's All-Nite Affair, a bottle club located on 9th Avenue at Douglas Avenue. In 1986, he hosted the No Wave Jam, a local rock concert at the municipal auditorium. Local favorites The Pilots headlined the event. A year or two later, he skydived and landed on Pensacola Beach.
Mike Danger was 49 years old when he died in August, 2006, from complications of diabetes.
