Early life and educationEdit

CareerEdit
Coby served in the United States Marine Corps from 1971-1982. He first came to Pensacola for flight training in 1971. He returned to become a flight instructor in 1978, and after retiring from the Marine Corps in 1982 decided to remain in Pensacola.
Coby has worked for the City of Pensacola since 1984, when he was hired as director of the Community Redevelopment Agency. In 1987 he became an assistant city manager and continued in that role until August 8, 2008, at which time the previous City Manager, Tom Bonfield, vacated the position. The Pensacola City Council voted unanimously to appoint Coby to the interim post, which he will likely occupy for a minimum of eight months, and possibly considerably longer, as Council has expressed the desire for Coby to remain in the post at least until the end of the Charter Review Commission process.
Coby does not reside in the City of Pensacola.
