Pensacola Fire Department
The Pensacola Fire Department is the fire protection arm of the City of Pensacola. The current Fire Chief is Frank Edwards.
History
Fire service in Pensacola dates back to 1810, when Spanish officials imported two fire engines, fifty leather buckets, hoses and nozzles from a British firm. A volunteer firefighting brigade was formed in 1821 when Florida was transferred to the United States. Volunteers continued to be the only means of fire protection until January 1, 1898, when the city established a full-time department of paid firefighters.
