James A. Scoggins was coach of the Pensacola High School Tigers in the 1950s whose football program competed with some of the best high schools in the South. He was a four-sport athlete for the Vanderbilt Commodores and assistant to Coach Red Sanders before coaching at PHS. His record of 84 victories, 13 defeats and 3 ties made him one of Florida's winningest coaches for many years, but was eventually topped by Coach Mike Bennett in 2007.
Pensacola High School's football stadium is named for Scoggins. His son, James A. Scoggins III, founded Scoggins Realty.
