Hello. I'm using this talk page to introduce myself. I'm a new admin and since I'm new to wiki editing, my goal is to stop spammers from scaring off new users.

What do you think about adding a "featured article" section to the main page, akin to Wikipedia? I think we have enough articles to maintain that for a while. Maybe weekly rotation? I don't feel particularly strongly about it, just a thought. dcosson ··· talk 15:23, 27 October 2007 (CDT)

Sure thing, though we should probably leave the "Help Pensapedia grow" box and getting started links for now. I also can't wait till we can finally get a "Today in Pensacola history" thing going, but that may take a while longer to collect more dates. --Admin 16:54, 27 October 2007 (CDT)

On this day

Nice script. What happens when there is nothing on the on this day page for a given day? Just displays the On this day header with nothing under it? — dscossontalk  03:46, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks... though obviously I should have tested it before doing all 365 days. (I'm having to change some things as I go along.) If there are no events listed, it will just show the link to the date. — admin • talk  03:55, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

About us

Joe -- a colleague of mine made the observation that we should include a better description of what Pensapedia is on the Main Page. He said that someone who comes to Pensapedia from a search engine etc. may not at first glance know what Pensapedia is about. I think that most of our visitors will probably be folks familiar with Pensacola, but he may have a point. How would you feel about adding the following (or something similar) to the lead under "Help Pensapedia Grow!":

Pensapedia is a wiki-based encyclopedia focusing on Pensacola, Florida and the surrounding area.

Whatcha think? — dscossontalk  12:41, 5 July 2009 (CDT)

Works for me. Maybe "surrounding area" could be a link to Pensapedia:Scope, where we explain the rough boundaries of the area we cover. We should probably do something less wishy-washy with the Pensacola article too. — admin • talk  15:10, 5 July 2009 (CDT)
Yeah, the Pensacola article sucks. As far as the Scope idea... what is our scope, lol? — dscossontalk  17:52, 5 July 2009 (CDT)
Heh, good question. Obviously Pensacola/Escambia County is the main focus and deserves the most detail. Santa Rosa/Baldwin/Escambia (Alabama) is the second "tier." From Mobile to Okaloosa/Walton is the third tier, and maybe we can include limited historical info as far east as Apalachicola. I'll try to explicate. — admin • talk  19:53, 5 July 2009 (CDT)

I think profanity is unbecoming an encyclopedia, and degrades it's status as a tool for learning. Hallgs, January 13, 2015
