WBOP was a radio station in Pensacola that occupied the 101.5 FM and 980 AM positions. The station carried soul and R&B programming. Although not African-American owned, the station was popular with the black community. The station ceased broadcasting in 1988.[1]
History
WBOP began broadcasting in the late 1950s. At some point in the 1980s WBOP moved its AM simulcast from 980 to 1230 KHz.
An advertisement for the station in the Polk's 1973 Pensacola City Directory is as follows:
