- 1861 – Civil War: Union forces under Commodore James Armstrong surrender the Navy Yard, including Fort Barrancas and Fort McRee, to Major William H. Chase and his Confederate troops. Navy Yard quartermaster William Conway refuses to strike the Union colors. William Franklin Lee joins the Confederacy.
- 1975 - Southern pop / rock musicians Wet Willie, plus opening act Michael Murphy, perform at the municipal auditorium.
