Lee Square is a memorial park in downtown Pensacola. It is located between the north- and south-bound lanes of Palafox Street, between Jackson and Gadsden Streets. Formerly known as Florida Park, the North Hill location was the site of a Union fort during the Civil War. It was renamed Lee Square, after Confederate General Robert E. Lee, in 1891. A statue at the center of the park is dedicated to Confederate President Jefferson Davis (whose likeness tops the statue), Secretary of the Navy Stephen Russell Mallory, Florida Governor Edward Aylesworth Perry, and "our Confederate dead."
