:I tried to grab the whole thing from the Library of Congress file, but unlike the other maps, which are JPEG2000 format, this one was in a strange format called "MrSID". I found a reader, but it will only let me export one screen's worth at a time. Rather than spend hours to export the whole thing piece by piece and tile them all together, I figured this was a reasonable compromise until we can find something better.--[[User:Admin|Admin]] 17:17, 21 April 2007 (CDT)

I tried to grab the whole thing from the Library of Congress file, but unlike the other maps, which are JPEG2000 format, this one was in a strange format called "MrSID". I found a reader, but it will only let me export one screen's worth at a time. Rather than spend hours to export the whole thing piece by piece and tile them all together, I figured this was a reasonable compromise until we can find something better.--Admin 17:17, 21 April 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, MrSID sucks. I've taken the MrSID image, exported it to TIFF, and then to JPG. It's an pretty large file at 8+ MB, but I didn't want to compress it too much for quality's sake. Right now it's compressed at 60% quality of the source TIFF... but I am having trouble uploading it. dcosson ··· talk 18:55, 21 April 2007 (CDT)

Oh definitely. The TIFF was about 133 MB. JPEG compressed to 80% was 12.5 MB, site wouldn't take it; JPEG @ 60% compression was 8.5 MB, site wouldn't take it. I finally got a 50% compressed JPEG (7.1 MB) to upload. Image:WellgeMapHR.jpg. dcosson ··· talk 20:52, 21 April 2007 (CDT)
