Founded by David McGuigan, it provided a place for Pensacola's earliest adopters of the new wave of rock music to play gigs. Some of the bands that played there were The Names, The Beach Monkeys, Congo Rebellion and The Stiffs. R.E.M. played there very early in their career. McGuigans Speakeasy was the first new wave / punk rock bar in Pensacola. Founded by David McGuigan, it provided a place for Pensacola's earliest adopters of the new wave of rock music to play gigs.
