June 29 - Jo Hovind, wife of Kent Hovind, is sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison, stemming from her conviction in November 2006 on 45 counts of evading bank-reporting requirements. June 28 - The Pensacola City Council votes unanimously on a $530,000 project to upgrade the Fricker Community Center for use as a hurricane shelter. June 21 - The Escambia County Commission delays a vote on a new definition of what constitutes a hotel. Commissioner Gene Valentino also announced Ed Guernsey as his new appointee to the Santa Rosa Island Authority. June 21 - Florida Governor Charlie Crist signs property tax legislation into law. A constitutional amendment scheduled for the January 29, 2008 ballot will determine the extent of reform. June 21 - The Westside Branch Library, which opened on April 23, celebrates its official opening ceremony. June 20 - Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino fires his appointee to the Santa Rosa Island Authority, Kelly G. Robertson. June 16 - Emerald Coast Ministries opens the Emerald Coast Women's Ministry Recovery Center on Palmetto Avenue. June 16 - The 2007 Sankofa Juneteenth Heritage Festival is held at the Fricker Center. June 14 - Leandre Woods is sentenced to 15 years in state prison for the October 7, 2004 killing of Tywann Grandison. June 13 - Shana Sanders and Amanda Pearl Davis are killed in an auto accident on U.S. 90 in Pea Ridge. The driver of the other vehicle, 19-year-old Joshua Harris, is charged with DUI. June 13 - Former ECSO Deputy James Sullivan pleads no contest to a charge that he burned on a barbecue grill a videotape of himself allegedly using excessive force against a detained suspect, Jeremy Mann. June 13 - The Santa Rosa Island Authority approves a list of policies defining what qualifies as a hotel on Pensacola Beach. June 12 - Fred Allen, Sr., who stabbed his wife Patsy on May 4, is deemed mentally unfit for trial and is committed to the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee. June 11 - Luke McCoy returns as host of WCOA's call-in show "Pensacola Speaks" three weeks after stepping down. June 11 - The developers of Hawkshaw Eastside parter with Moulton Properties to design a new plan for the 1.8-acre property at 9th Avenue and Romana Street.
