Jere's Lounge had previously been a hair salon which was owned by cosmetologist Jere Hobbs and located in the 6400 block of 9th Avenue. Until the early 1980's, it advertised both topless dancers and a country music band. Following Hobbs untimely death in 1982, the name was changed to Jere's Rock and Roll Showcase, and so changed it's theme. Ownership was assumed by Hobbs sister, Barbara McDuffie, and managed by former news reporter David Jenkins.
