Matt Martin was the teenage son of local surfer and businessman Robin Martin who was killed in a skateboarding accident on February 2, 1997, on Linden Avenue in Gulf Breeze. The Matt Martin Surf Contest is held every year, sponsored by Innerlight Surf Shop. Proceeds from the event go to help members of the surfing community with medical needs, like Cody Cobia and Tom Davis.
