Jere's Lounge

Jere's Lounge had previously been a hair salon which was owned by cosmetologist Jere Hobbs and located on the west side of the 6400 block of 9th Avenue. In the early 1970s, part of the building operated under the name Brothers and Sisters, and later as The Stone Toad. By the mid-1970s and until the early 1980s, it advertised both topless dancers and a country music band featuring Terry Thomas as house entertainer.

Sometime around 1983, Flame and The Heaters became the house band.

Following Hobbs untimely death on January 12, 1984 it remained closed for several months, then reopened as Jere's Rock and Roll Showcase, and so changed its theme to hosting touring bands. Ownership was assumed by Hobbs sister, Barbara McDuffie, and managed by former news reporter David Jenkins - who sang the closing number of House Of The Rising Sun with every band that performed there under his management.

Jere's hosted several local bands such as Flame and The Heaters, The Pilots, RMS Express, The Beach Monkeys, Slayer, and Baghdad. After approximately twelve years in business, the establishment closed in the spring of 1985. Not long after that, the building was demolished and a car wash was constructed.
